Volunteers

Our Volunteers

We have been very fortunate to receive volunteers every year since 2006. Maggie, a school secretary,  was our very first volunteer. She took three months leave from her work to stay with our HIV children, sponsored a little boy and  raised funds to buy us our first four wheeled vehicle. She is still affectionately remembered as Maggie Auntie by the older children and continues to spread the word about what we do at Brighter Future in India.

Our organisation was vetted by VESL in 2007 as they select student volunteers from Manchester Metropolitan University to visit us in the summer vacations. Over the years Anjali, Katy, Becky, Sophie, Emma, Rachel, Helen, Lucy and Ami have come to live with the children, and sometimes help in the office. They involved the children in craft activities, painting, playing  and teaching English besides lending a hand wherever it was needed. They visited our other projects and have continued to support Brighter Future in our fundraising events, like the London 10K Run.

Anjali has run the London 10K for us four times! She spent several months at DMC house with the children and helped Victor with the office work.

Anjali enjoyed the Picnic days and took many photos of the children enjoying themselves.

She took the senior college students to Visakhapatnam after their exams as a special treat. Read about it in the children's web pages http://sites.google.com/site/brighterfuturefamily/home

Several of the girls have sponsored children.
Kathryn brought her partner on her third return visit.
Kara and Kelly took leave from work to come and got involved helping the children make their Christmas cards.
Juliet stayed for three months and so did Kirsty.

We welcome visitors to our projects. The best months, climate-wise, for visitors from the UK are between October and February when the temperatures are like those of a pleasant English summer's day. However, most of our young people came in their university vacations, in July and August. However, with the decline of 'gap years' as university fees and living costs have risen, we have not had a student volunteer for a few years.
They have however been willing supporters and runners for us in the five years that Brighter Future had tickets for the London 10K  every July.
